The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have received a big setback before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Their fast bowler, Umran Malik, will not be able to play because of an injury. This is a tough blow for KKR, as Umran is known for his fiery fast bowling.
Umran Malik, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2021 to 2024, was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for 75 lakh rupees at the IPL 2025 Auction. He is famous for his raw speed. However, he will now miss the entire tournament due to an injury.
To replace Umran Malik, KKR has signed Chetan Sakariya. Chetan Sakariya is a left-arm fast bowler. He was not picked by any team during the IPL 2025 Auction. Now, KKR has signed him for 75 lakh rupees. Sakariya has played in the IPL before, representing Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. In total, he has played 19 IPL matches and taken 20 wickets. Also, he has played for India in one One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), where he took two wickets.
Changes in KKR
Besides this player change, KKR has made other changes for the IPL 2025 season. They have changed some players in their team and also some of the people who help the team. Last season, Shreyas Iyer was the captain and led KKR to win the title. But before the big auction, KKR let him go. Later, Punjab Kings signed Iyer and made him their captain.
Because Shreyas Iyer is no longer with KKR, Ajinkya Rahane will be the captain. Ajinkya Rahane recently led Mumbai to victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also scored the most runs in that tournament, with 469 runs in just 9 matches, including five fifties. For this, he was named Player of the Tournament.
