IPL 2025: Players Royal Challengers May Target, Retained and Released Players List

The Royal Challengers Bangalore retained their Superstar Virat Kohli for a staggering Rs. 21 crore, which makes the former Indian captain the most expensive Indians at IPL 2025 player retention on Thursday.

However, RCB decided to retain only two players – in addition to Kohli – from their squad, namely, middle-order batter Rajat Patidar and left-arm seamer Yash Dayal. Patidar was retained for Rs 11 crore and Dayal for Rs 5 crore was retained. This also signifies that RCB will again have three Right to Match (RTM) cards in the ensuing IPL 2025 mega auction.

The largest gossip regarding three-time wild card entrant Royal Challengers Bangalore revolved around whether Kohli would come back to the captaincy position or not. Though there was no question of Kohli would be the top retention player for RCB but what remains to be seen is whether the former Indian captain comes back into the captaincy position after the break.

Players RCB can buy for IPL 2025 main event

The RCB management would definitely want to include big players in its squad, so it has saved Rs 83 crore in its purse. Looking at the RCB retention list, it is known that it has a talented fast bowler in the form of Yash Dayal. But the team will also need an experienced fast bowler, for which RCB can target Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the auction. He took 11 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. He got a salary of Rs 4.2 crore last season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will also need two explosive top order batsmen in the upcoming season. Last year, RCB added Will Jacks for Rs 3.2 crore. He scored 230 runs in IPL 2024 while batting at a strike rate of 175.6. Apart from him, Phil Salt, who batted explosively for KKR in IPL 2024, can also be the target of the Bangalore franchise.

Before the IPL 2025 retention list came out, when speculations started about KL Rahul being released from Lucknow Super Giants, speculations about his return to RBC started. Bangalore will desperately need a top wicketkeeper batsman next season. On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal has got the most success in Royal Challengers. He has taken 139 wickets in 113 matches for this team. Chahal, who has been a part of Rajasthan Royals since 2022, has been released by Rajasthan this time. Chahal can wreak havoc by returning to his old team and he also has a lot of experience playing under Kohli’s captaincy.
