Earlier in the week, Kohli narrowly missed out on the coveted Orange Cap which went to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, his excellent overall performance with the bat against Gujarat Titans brought him back to the top spot. The right-hand batter now has 542 runs in 11 matches so far this season.

Before the heart-melting bow, Kohli took apart GT’s bowlers in a batting masterclass. His 42 runs came in just 27 balls with a stunning strike of 155.56. He opened the batting alongside Faf du Plessis and together they formed a strong partnership of 92 runs. Du Plessis himself smashed a phenomenal knock, scoring a quickfire 62 runs off just 23 balls, consisting of 10 fours and 3 sixes.
However, RCB’s middle order collapsed even while chasing Gujarat Titans’ modest total of 147. Despite the wobbles, the robust foundations laid by Kohli and Plessis proved critical. Seasoned finisher Dinesh Karthik (21* off 12 balls) and Swapnil Singh (15* off 9 balls) secured a 4-wicket win for RCB.
