Ahead of India vs England 4th Test Indian Cricket Teams Meet King Charles III

The Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams had a special meeting with King Charles III at St. James’s Palace in London. This exciting event brought together the teams, their coaches, and officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). King Charles III showed a deep interest in cricket and the players’ lives, making the meeting memorable for everyone.

The Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams, led by captains Shubman Gill and Harmanpreet Kaur, met King Charles III in the beautiful gardens of Clarence House at St. James’s Palace. The meeting was attended by key players like Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Additionally, players like Prasidh Krishna, Karun Nair, and Arshdeep Singh were present, along with BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla and India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami.

King Charles III impressed everyone with his knowledge about the Indian cricket teams. He asked personal questions about the players, showing he had done his homework. He inquired about pacer Akash Deep’s sister, who is battling cancer, and even asked about the late Arun Jaitley, a former BCCI official. Rajeev Shukla praised the King’s humility, saying, “He sounded like a gentleman, and it didn’t feel like we were talking to the King of England. The Indian cricket teams were thrilled to meet him.”

During the meeting, King Charles III spoke about the recent third Test match at Lord’s, where India lost by 22 runs to England. He specifically mentioned the unlucky dismissal of Mohammed Siraj, whose wicket ended the match when the ball rolled back onto the stumps. Shubman Gill shared, “It was amazing to meet King Charles III. He was kind to invite us, and we had great conversations. He said it was unfortunate how our last batsman got out, and we told him it was a tough match that could have gone either way.”

The King’s interest in cricket made the Indian cricket teams feel valued. He also spoke with other players, including Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, sharing light-hearted moments. The Indian cricket teams appreciated his warm and friendly nature.

Rajeev Shukla gifted King Charles III a book called Scars of 1947: Real Partition Stories, which shares real-life accounts from the 1947 partition of India. The King showed interest in the book and even asked Shukla about it during their talk.

The Indian women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, recently won a historic 3-2 T20I series against England, their first-ever series win on English soil. Harmanpreet shared her joy about meeting King Charles III, saying, “It was a nice experience. We’ve come to England many times, but this was our first time meeting him. He was very friendly and asked about our travel.” The women’s team is now preparing for a three-match ODI series starting in Southampton.

Before meeting King Charles III, the Indian cricket teams met British actor Idris Elba. He admitted, “I’m a fan, but I don’t follow cricket as much as I should. I was just a small-time bowler.” This light moment added a fun vibe to the day, making it even more special for the Indian cricket teams.
