The Indian Premier League season 18 will resume on 17th May 2025 after it was halted due to recently concluded India-Pakistan war where the last match before the season got postponed was played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharmshala.
It was later decided by BCCI, that we will resume this league after a week, after reviewing the situation finally it was checked that we will take a call to organize IPL 18 after a week.
Finally revise date was announced where the league will begun from 17th May 2025 will be concluded by 3rd June 2025.
Talking about the development of the game, 17 matches are left for season 18 to be concluded and it would be interesting to see who will emerge the winner of this contest as five teams including the likes of- Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.
The biggest problem that most franchises are facing at the moment as most of their overseas players will not return let’s have a look at the list of Overseas players who will not return once IPL 2025 resume and which team will be impacted the most to be shared in the below format.
Overseas Players who will not return to IPL 2025:
Before we analyze which player would return in the IPL 2025 franchise squad, we need to understand the statements coming from overseas board.
It all starts with Cricket South Africa Coach Conrad Shastri who stated “Our Initial agreement with BCCI and IPL was till 25th May 2025 so I am expecting players to return post that date as playing World Test Championship final against Australia will hold key for us going forward”.
There are currently 8 South African players competing in IPL 2025, including the likes of- Ryan Rickleton(Mumbai Indians), Kagiso Rabada(Gujarat Titans), Marco Jansen(Punjab Kings) and others who are expected to join their proteas team ahead of big final against Australia.
When it comes to Cricket Australia’s verdict they have smartly park the ball in players court and stated that team management have been told to keep separate plan open for players who want to play rest of IPL and join Australian squad later for World Test Championship final.
The England cricketers who are currently part of IPL have left for their home country for the series against West Indies where the likes of- Will Jacks(Mumbai Indians) and Jos Butler (Gujarat Titans) have already left.
The uncertainty looms on Caribbean players including the likes of- Sherfane rutherford and Romario Shephered picked in the squad will be available for remainder of IPL season as they are also member of West Indies ODI squad.
Let’s have a look at how teams will be impacted if Overseas players don’t return for remainder of IPL 2025:
1. Jos Butler: Jos Butler, being Gujarat Titans, versatile batter, will be missed the most, as he has been vital cog for Titans so far in IPL 2025, and he brilliantly complemented Sai Sudharshan and Shubhman Gill.
2. Kushal Mendis will replace him, but considering the magntitude of everything, it won’t be easy for him to replace a player with stature like Jos Butler.
3. Sherfane Rutherford and Kagiso Rabada will not be part of IPL 2025, that will leave one of the biggest void in their team considering the big names they possess on the table.
4. Punjab Kings players including the likes of Marco Jansen, Josh Inglis and Marcus Stonis who would not return for IPL 2025 for distinct reasons- Jansen is part of South African squad for WTC Final against Australia on June 11th 2025.
Josh Inglis and Stonis have fled back to Australia it seems despite Ponting interference there are not in a mood to return.
5. Mumbai Indians players like Ryan Rickleton (part of South African squad for wtc final against Australia on June 11th 2025, Will jacks preparing for home series against west indies and Corbin bosch chances are reduced to play IPL 2025 even as Santner is most likely to return once it happen, Bosch will hardly get a chance to play in IPL.
6. Delhi Capitals, Jake Fraser Mcgurk who opted out from IPL due to personal reasons and Mitchell starc is most likely not to return considering his preparation for World Test Championship Final against South Africa.
7. Kolkata Knight Riders would certainly not miss any overseas players as the likes of- Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are still there.
Overall considering all permutations and combinations, most likely to suffer as their overseas players are not returning for remainder of IPL 2025 is none other than Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.
Considering teams who are already languishing at the bottom of the points table and sitting at the bottom , they would not have any impact due to return of their overseas players.
The impact will persist to those franchise who are staying at the top so if these players don’t return all meager chances held by Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans will go into hay.
When it comes to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians they still have enough India and Overseas firepower in their arsenal to deal with this debacle where they can perform as a unit with the best of their ability in crunch IPL matches.
It would be interesting to see which team will carry momentum once IPL begun as game awareness and muscle memory plays a valiant role in Cricket.
Royal Challengers Bangalore star player Virat Kohli would be certainly aiming to play with the best of his ability and score consistently in times to come where he could ensure that RCB wins their maiden title this year.
On the other end, team led by Shreyas Iyer and tactically guided by Ricky Ponting would be eagerly looking to lift their maiden IPL title for PBKS.
Overall excitement is round the corner and it would be interesting to see who will emerge winner of IPL season 18 as final most probably have been relocated to Kolkata due to natural calamity.
