Rajat Patidar Shines in IPL 2025, Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has already delivered exciting moments, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar made history in a recent match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). Even though RCB lost the game, Patidar’s incredible achievement stole the spotlight. He broke a record previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, marking a major milestone in IPL 2025.

RCB faced PBKS at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 18, 2025. However, evening showers delayed the game, and it was reduced to 14 overs per side. RCB batted first, but their innings struggled early on. Thanks to a fighting knock of 50 runs off 26 balls by Tim David, RCB managed to post 95 for nine. For PBKS, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was a standout, taking key wickets, including Rajat Patidar for 23 runs off 18 balls.

Despite RCB’s efforts, PBKS chased the target comfortably in just 12.1 overs, winning by five wickets. Nehal Wadhera led the chase with a quick 33 off 19 balls, while Josh Hazlewood’s brilliant bowling (3/14) for RCB wasn’t enough to stop PBKS. As a result, PBKS climbed to second place in the IPL 2025 points table with five wins in seven matches, earning 10 points. Meanwhile, RCB slipped to fourth with four wins and three losses from seven games.

Rajat Patidar Achieves Historic Milestone

Although RCB lost, Rajat Patidar gave fans something to cheer about. During his 23-run knock, he reached a massive milestone: becoming the second-fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in IPL history. Patidar achieved this in just 30 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who both took 31 innings, and Tilak Varma, who took 33 innings. Only Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan was faster, reaching 1000 runs in 25 innings.

But that’s not all. Rajat Patidar also made history as the first Indian batter in IPL 2025 to score 1000 runs with an average above 35 and a strike rate over 150. This unique combination of consistency and aggression sets him apart from other Indian stars in the tournament’s history. His achievement shows why he’s a key player and leader for RCB in IPL 2025.

Even with the loss, Rajat Patidar’s form is a bright spot for RCB. He has been in great shape this season, scoring 186 runs in six matches, including two fifties, at an average of 37.2 and a strike rate of 161.73.

The IPL 2025 season is heating up, and Rajat Patidar’s record-breaking performance has put him in the spotlight. His ability to score quickly and consistently makes him a player to watch. For RCB, the focus will be on improving their batting and playing as a unit to challenge strong teams like PBKS. The upcoming rematch in Mullanpur is a golden opportunity for RCB to show they can compete with the best.
