Delhi Capitals Match RCB’s Record for Most Home Losses in IPL

The Indian Premier League brought an unwanted record for Delhi Capitals (DC) after their recent loss against Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025. DC lost to MI by 12 runs at their home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With this defeat, DC tied Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for losing the most matches at a home venue in IPL history. Both teams have now lost 45 games at their respective home stadiums, DC at Arun Jaitley Stadium and RCB at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The match against MI was the 29th game of the IPL 2025 season. DC, led by Axar Patel, was hoping to continue their four-match winning streak. However, things didn’t go as planned. MI set a challenging target of 206 runs, thanks to a solid 50 from Tilak Varma and strong batting from SuryaKumar Yadav and Naman Dhir. MI finished their 20 overs at 205/5.

In response, DC started poorly. Young batter Jake Fraser-McGurk was out for a golden duck, caught by Will Jacks off Deepak Chahar’s bowling in the very first ball. This early blow put DC under pressure. Although Karun Nair played a brilliant innings, scoring 89 runs on his IPL comeback, the rest of the team struggled. Only Abishek Porel contributed a decent 33 runs, while other batters failed to make an impact.

As the chase continued, DC’s hopes faded with a dramatic collapse. Towards the end, they suffered a hat-trick of run-outs, which sealed their fate. Mohit Sharma was run out for zero, and DC ended their innings at 193/10 in 19 overs, falling short by 12 runs. This loss not only broke DC’s winning streak but also marked their 45th defeat at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Comparing Home Losses in IPL

DC’s record of 45 home losses now equals RCB’s unwanted milestone at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Other IPL teams have also faced tough times at their home grounds, but none match this number. For example, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending champions, have lost 38 matches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Mumbai Indians, despite their five IPL titles, have 34 losses at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

While losing at home is tough for any team, it’s part of the game. Home grounds are usually where teams feel confident, but DC and RCB have found it challenging to turn their home advantage into wins as often as they’d like.

Despite the loss, DC remains in second place in the IPL 2025 points table, showing their strength earlier in the season. However, this defeat is a reminder that every game matters in the fast-paced IPL. For MI, the win was a much-needed boost. With two wins and four losses, they climbed to seventh place, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
