The incident happened at Headingley during the third Test, where Australia was in dominant position and England had an almost insurmountable chance of winning at 500-1.

Remarkably, Lillee and Marsh both wagered for England to win, perhaps making light of the improbable result. In the face of overwhelming odds, England achieved thrilling victory thanks to an outstanding bat from Ian Botham and abowling masterclass from Bob Willis.

There was uproar when it was revealed that two Australian players had benefited from the upset. The event sparked major questions about sportsmanship and the ethics of players betting on matches they are involved in it even though they denied any official charges were lodged against them and insisted it was lighthearted gamble. It sparked discussions about integrity in cricket and gambling, and it permanently marred their otherwise remarkable careers.

2. The Spot-Fixing Scandal in Pakistan in 2010 :

The cricket community was startled by the 2010 spot-fixing incident that occurred during Pakistan’s visit of England. Salman Butt, the captain at the time, fast bowlers Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Asif, as well as agent Mazhar Majeedwere engaged.

The players were convicted of spot-fixing, type of manipulation in which they purposefully bowled no-balls at particular points during the Lord’s Test in return for cash.

The News of the World’s sting operation, which surreptitiously recorded Majeed taking money and describing the precise deliveries that would be no-balls, exposed the scandal.

The players were banned and subsequently imprisoned for their roles in the conspiracy after an ICC investigation and criminal investigation was launched and these players were involved in this matter.

1. 2013 Match-Fixing Scandal in New Zealand:

darker aspect of international cricket was exposed in 2013 when former New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent admitted to match-fixing. Vincent freely acknowledged his involvement in match

fixing in number of nations and competitions, including T20 leagues and English county matches.He linked quick bowler Daryl Tuffey and former New Zealand sensation Chris Cairns to the controversy.Once considered national hero, Cairns was accused of lying under oath about his involvement in fixing, which led to serious accusations and well publicized perjury prosecution in the UK.

Even though he was found not guilty of perjury in 2015, the case severely damaged his reputation. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) banned Vincent for life. After he confessed his own transgressions and gave thorough testimony against others.

New Zealand cricket was rocked by these discoveries, which also served as sobering reminder that corruption can exist in even the most prestigious cricketing nations.

Cricket has been put to bad shape due to several controversies and all these scandals should not happen again for that Anti Corruption Unit have been put in place so that these issues could be eradicated for sure.

BCCI is also strict when it comes to stopping match fixing in Cricket.
