The IPL 2025 match between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad turned out to be quite an eventful one.
With a flurry of sixes, stylish boundaries and the magic of impact players, this annual tournament is already setting off fireworks and leaving the crowd in awe. Surely it is watched for being one of the most followed sports leagues across the world.
While the match five ended with a sweet victory for Punjab Kings, it was the remarkable innings from skipper Shreyas Iyer and Shashank Singh that garnered all the laurels.
The middle order batsman came on the field when his team was five wickets down and went all guns blazing since then. Having played 25 matches in his IPL career so far, Singh has scored 423 runs for his team prior to this season, at a strike rate of 161 so far.
His phenomenal knock of 44 not out in just 16 balls, along with Iyer’s 97 unbeaten in 42 balls sealed the deal for their team and helped set an enviable total of 243 post the first innings.
On one end was Shashank Singh, who was only ten-balls old at the crease and on the other side was the set batter, having never scored an IPL hundred.
But Shashank said he was told “to hit every ball for a four and a six,” and not to think about giving Shreyas the strike. He did just that, scoring 23 runs off the final over, only 11 runs more for GT’s chase.
“I was going to ask him if I should take a single or something, but he only came and told me to not worry about his hundred. It takes a lot of heart and courage to say that because obviously hundreds don’t come easily in T20, especially in IPL. That gave me even more confidence.”
“It’s a team game we all know, but then in those situations, it’s difficult to be that selfless but Shreyas was one”.

Shashank began his domestic career with Mumbai before moving to Chhattisgarh. Incidentally, he shot to limelight after hitting an unbeaten 29 ball 61 for Punjab Kings against the same Gujarat Titans itself last year in IPL 2024.
The all-rounder had previously been a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils before finding his comfort home with the Punjab Kings.
This match was another high-scoring affair in the newest edition of the million-dollar league. In the match, which saw Iyer unleash his near-century-knock, the Punjab Kings, after being put into bat by the host Gujarat Titans, went on a rampage against the Titans and their bowlers.
The Kings ruled the night and put up a grand show for the spectators, while opponents Gujarat Titans came close to the score but felt marginally short of the target.
