Cricket is a game loved by millions, but the World Cricketers Association (WCA) says it needs some big fixes. They wrote a report to make cricket better for players, fans, and everyone involved. Fixing the Schedule
Right now, cricket’s calendar is a mess. T20 leagues (except the IPL) happen at the same time as international matches. This forces players to choose between playing for their country or joining a league. The WCA wants to change that starting in 2028 or 2029. They suggest four 21-day windows for international cricket, February-March, May-June, September, and December. During these times, teams play each other in a series with at least one match in every format (Tests, ODIs, T20Is). Each format gets its own leaderboard that leads to an ICC event, like the World Cup.
While these windows are on, no T20 leagues can happen. However, teams can play other series outside these times. For example, the T20 World Cup takes place in October-November, and the LA28 Olympics take place in July. This way, the calendar stays clear and easy to follow.
Sharing the Money Fairly
Next, the WCA talks about money. Cricket makes a lot of cash, but it’s not shared well. India’s board, the BCCI, gets 38.5% of ICC revenue, while most other countries get almost nothing. The report says this should drop to 10%. Why? Because 83% of cricket’s money comes from just three countries India, England, and Australia, and 70% of it comes in just three months. The rest of the world gets less than 4%.
Plus, players only get about 10% of the total money, even though they bring in the crowds. The WCA wants a better plan. They think a good calendar can add $246 million every year. They also suggest rules: the top 24 countries get between 2% and 10% of ICC money, and smaller countries together get at least 10%. On top of that, they want a Global Growth Fund. This fund takes some money from ICC events, T20 leagues, and TV rights to help cricket grow everywhere.

Who’s in Charge?
Another big issue is leadership. The WCA says no one really runs cricket for the whole world. Big boards like the BCCI call the shots, but players, T20 leagues, and women’s cricket don’t get a say. The report calls this a problem. So, they want a new group called the Global Game Leadership Committee. This team includes people from cricket boards, leagues, players, and independent experts. They give ideas to the ICC to make decisions better.
Updating the Rules
The rules of cricket need a refresh too. Right now, the ICC focuses on international games and doesn’t handle T20 leagues well. The WCA says this thinking is old. Leagues are a huge part of cricket now, but the ICC limits things like how many foreign players can join a team.
