The legendary sprinter Usain Bolt has been chosen as the official ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This high-energy cricket tournament will be held in the West Indies and USA from June 1st to June 29th, 2024.

Usain Bolt, the Jamaican-born track and field legend, is no stranger to breaking records. He dominated the 2008 Beijing Olympics, winning the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m races in record-breaking times that still stand today – 9.58 seconds for 100m, 19.19 seconds for 200m, and 36.84 seconds for the 4x100m relay.

But Bolt sees the World Cup as an opportunity for cricket to go beyond the Caribbean. “While I will of course be supporting West Indies at the World Cup, getting the sport into the US is big for cricket,” he said. The US has a massive sports market, and Bolt believes the T20 World Cup’s energy can be a launching pad for cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
As the T20 World Cup ambassador, Usain Bolt will play a big role in promoting the event. He’ll even be making a special appearance next week alongside famous Caribbean musicians Sean Paul and Kes in the official World Cup anthem.
The ICC is clearly excited to have Bolt on board. “Usain Bolt is a global icon, we are thrilled to have him on board as an Ambassador for the T20 World Cup,” said ICC Chief Executive Officer Geoff Allardice. “His passion for cricket is well known, making him the perfect fit for this role.”
